I Want Ice Kachang

I'm giddy with excitement right now, the reason being: I've just confirmed the flight for my home visit. This means, if everything goes well, I will be back home in Singapore from 25th July - 15th August. I will be spending the Singapore National Day on my native soil. I feel very patriotic right now. :)

Need to make a list of things to eat when I'm home. I have decided the first thing I want to eat when I touch down in Singapore is Ice Kachang. Ice kachang is shaved ice flavoured with syrup, mixed with sweetcorn, redbean, palm seed, grass jelly, agar-agar cubes at the bottom. I love it when they add the condensed milk liberally. It's cold and sweet - the taste I want for a homecoming.

I know it's only May right now, but I am looking forward to going home. More than the food, I miss the people that I care about back home. I miss the crazy girls at my old work-place who dedicated a cupcake to me - because we used to share cupcakes during lunch.

Can't wait.

I'm happy you're getting a break from your current situation. Ice Kachang sounds wonderful.

Bybee - if you ever travel to either Malaysia or Singapore - you have to try the ice kachang. It's a simple iced dessrt - but it's one of the fondest memory where I grew up.

Or you can try the chendol.:)

they just add crushed peanut on top of the ice kachang. peanut lovers would love it. i prefer the orginal ice kachang, i just eat the peanut real quickly and enjoy the rest of the ice kachang ; ) there are two stores at tanjong pagar market. try annie.just an option if you are happened to be around that area. have fun and enjoy whatever you do. quietletters ; )

I second the peanut ice-kacang suggestion- soooo goood... and yes, lots of syrup and evaporated milk on mine please :) This is what I do before every one of our trips home- make a long list of all the local food we want to eat and systematically cross them out one by one. On top of my list is always Hokkien Mee and bak chor mee. What else are you craving? Rojak? (can you have the shrimp paste?)

serene - actually, I recently fell off the wagon on vegetarianism. It's too difficult to keep to a vegetarian diet over here.
