I Want To Watch American Idol!

I'm not an American Idol fan. Really. I have NEVER watched a single full episode of that show and I'm actually proud of that. But I just watched the performance of one of the final 24 on this new season, and I think I want to watch American Idol just for Amanda Overmyer.

Her singing Joplin's "Mean Woman" for the audition was good, but I was blown by her rendition of "Light My Fire":

I know she will probably be ousted a few episodes down -- because the show is not about how well you can sing. I also believe the public that vote for this kind of show isn't always appreciative of that gravelly, brassy vocals of hers.

But for as long as it lasts, I really want to watch this girl perform.

As I Trawl the Net for Movie News

Net access has resumed for the time being. So as I surf the net today, I found a few entertainment news that I thought I would share.

"Get Smart" Film Poster:

Anyone remembers the 60s spy-comedy TV series, Get Smart? I used to watch the re-runs on TV every week when I was young. I love the lame-brained humour in it, how Maxwell Smart, the totally clueless spy, and his assistant, 99 -- how they always manage to foil the plans of evil network KAOS. It was a spoof on the outlandish James Bond, but so endearing, because it never took itself seriously.

Next year, they will be releasing a film remake of the TV series. The film will star Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway. Cinematical has just released an exclusive poster:

I like this poster. It sort of captured the buffoonery of the original series.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Film Casting Finalized:

Oh, it seems Naomi Watts is not going to play Narcissa Malfoy. Instead, the role will be filled by Helen McCrory.

Who?

"Entertainment Weekly" Photos for "The Sarah Connor Chronicles":

From big-screen to small-screen. EW magazine has released the official posters for The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I've always been a fan of the first and the second Terminator movies. But what I'm really looking forward to for the TV series is Lena Headey and Summer Glau. Check them out here:

New Whedon Action Drama Next Year

For the fans of Joss Whedon, and Eliza Dushku, look out for their new action-drama called "Dollhouse." Yes -- they are coming back to TV. Yay!

Fox has given a seven-episode commitment to the 20th Century Fox Television project for a planned debut next year. A quick synopsis on the film:

"Dollhouse" stars Dushku as Echo, one of a group of secret agents living in a futuristic dorm. Each has the ability to be imprinted with custom personalities and abilities for special assignments. When they return, their newly acquired memories are wiped. The show follows Echo as she takes on a variety of assignments—some romantic, some adventurous, some uplifting, some illegal—and gains awareness of her role and confinement.

TV | Sarah Connor Chronicles Trailer

I've posted something on this before, but I'm going to post it again, but this time with trailer.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles is one of the most anticipated TV series coming soon - depending on where you live.

When I first watched the second Terminator movie, I felt for Sarah Connor. In the first movie, she was just an ordinary, disorganised young woman who is just a nobody you might feel sorry for but ignore. By the second film though, she became something else. The change is heart-rending but also magnificent, because you see how the character has been broken and hardened by the knowledge of what is to come. While the rest of the world can rest in ignorance, Sarah Connor KNOWS. The immensity of her knowledge is not a burden she could share - even her son, the Destined One, could not believe her. When fate thrusts itself onto you, Sarah Connor did what was necessary. No whiny "Why me?" She buffed up, suited up, and kicked ass.

Lena Headey of course, does not have the sinewy buffness of Linda Hamilton from the second Terminator movie. (Such is the pity. Meanwhile, let's post a picture of a T2 Linda Hamilton for the sake of nostalgia.) All that aside, Lena Headey has the awesomeness of being Lena Headey. This means elegance, beauty and bone-structure to die for. Is that enough reason to watch the Sarah Connor Chronicles? Duh! Of course! If that's not enough, all Firefly fans can tune in to watch Summer Glau as a Terminator sent to preserve John Connor. That means Summer Glau gets to be that white-hot dynamo of monstrous violence ― again! We get to see Summer Glau thrown through walls and kicking ass (in the nude, if I saw it right from the trailer), with shiny metal pieces being pulled out of her! Yay!

I leave you with the trailer. I hope to catch the show soon.

TV | More on Bionic Woman

The official sneak peek at the new Bionic Woman series.

As you may be able to guess, my favourite bit is towards the end, when you have the Starbuck vs Bionic Woman face-off:

Jamie Sommers (Michelle Ryan): Who are you?
Sarah (Katee Sackhoff): The first Bionic Woman. Ta-dah!

Starbuck! Starbuck! Starbuck!

TV Series I'm Looking Forward To

NBC has just confirmed they will be picking up the remake of Bionic Woman. UK actress Michelle Ryan will be playing the role of Jamie Sommers. The grandest thing is that Katee Sackhoff (who plays Captain Kara "Starbuck" Thrace on the new Battlestar Galactica) will be a "recurring guest star" on Bionic Woman. Her character is supposed to be the first Bionic Woman, who is seen fighting with Michelle Ryan's character in this Youtube preview.

David Eick, executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, is also responsible for the new Bionic Woman. If the kickass remake of Battlestar Galactica is anything to go by, this Bionic Woman remake shows promise.

Meanwhile, lap up this picture of Katee Sackhoff looking BAAAAD...

Can't wait.

Another high point of TV coming next in 2008, the Sarah Connor Chronicles is coming to FOX. It stars Lena Headey (last seen regal and splendid in the movie version of Frank Miller's 300) as the mother of the Saviour of Humanity, John Connor. The story is supposed to take place between Terminator 2 and Terminator 3. Okay, whatever. Can I just have more shots of Lena Headey, please?

Here's a picture of the main cast. And for Firefly fans, Summer Glau is part of the supporting cast for The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
