Warehouse Haul

It's Saturday -- so guess what I did? I bought books.

There was a warehouse sale -- by invitation only. Fifty percent off all books. Yes, 50% off all books.

My haul:

1. In Praise of Shadows Junichiro Tanizaki
2. The Cossacks Leo Tolstoy
3. The Hall of a Thousand Columns Tim Mackintosh-Smith
4. The Places In Between Rory Stewart
5. Passage to Juneau: A Sea & Its Meanings Jonathan Raban
6. Journey Without Maps Graham Greene
7. The Lawless Roads Graham Greene
8. The Temptation of Saint Anthony Gustave Flaubert
9. The Married Man Edmund White
10. The Collected Stories Grace Paley
11. Foreign Devils on the Silk Road Peter Hopkirk
12. The Great Game: On Secret Service in High Asia Peter Hopkirk

There was immense self-restraint -- considering the circumstances. Besides these, I was also looking for some Maugham novels, but they're out of stock. How can anyone be out of stock for Maugham?

Also picked up an uncorrected and INCOMPLETE bound proof copy of Michael Chabon's Gentlemen of the Road. Yes, it's incomplete. But I suppose if I don't like the first 170 pages, I'm not going to continue reading the book anyway.

Nice haul there! I think you'll like the Rory Stewart book -- what a great piece of travel writing.

Thanks, Dorothy. I had to get it the moment I saw it. Too bad they only had one of Jonathan Raban's non-fiction.

I just love pictures of book stacks!

What a great haul!!! You know, I was squinting to read the titles on the spines before I realised you had a list of the books you bought. Haha!

Ditto nicola - I love pixs of books and pictures of an avid reader's library.

Nicola I know what you mean. I love looking at stacks of books -- or just pictures of people's bookshelves in general. Love reading the titles on the spine -- and finding out what books we have in common.

Indigo *Laughs* Yeah, I used to post those blurry pictures of book stacks that people had to squint to read -- until I realise I probably should just post a list too. I learn. :)

That's so cool! An invitation only warehouse sale of books...all self restraint would just go out of the window with me. Lovely picture :)

almost all of them are foreign to me. i'd be interested to see what you make of it.

A warehouse sale? How very cool. You got some interesting books there. I haven't read any of those but I that Tanizaki book is one I'd be most interested in. Enjoy them!

Chris: Oh yes, self-restraint is often in stop supply when it comes to book-shopping. I'm so proud of myself. :)

Maybe I ought to post bigger pictures? But it'll then take longer to load. Oh well.

Iliana I will definitely be cherishing these books -- but now I just need to find the time to read. Hah! The eternal dilemma, so many books, so little time.

Warehouse sale by invitation only? Pretty impressive, and what a lovely stack of books!

Stefanie Oh yeah, invitation only. One of the VERY FEW perks of my job. Thanks, glad you like the haul. It could have been a bigger stack -- but alas, no stocks for many of the titles.
