Our new dog, named for the beloved poet,
ate a book which unfortunately we had
left unguarded.
Fortunately, it was the Bhagavad Gita,
of which many copies are available.
Every day now, as Percy grows
into the beauty of his life, we touch
his wild, curly head and say,"Oh, wisest of little dogs."

Oh my gosh. I'd forgotten how dear this first Percy poem is and the joy I felt in reading it for the first time. Mary Oliver is among my favorites. She is amazing, really. So wise and expressive. I can hardly believe she will be 73! Can that be right? Where does time go. Thanks for this. And what a wonderful site. I'll be back.
I'm starting to get attached to this dog.
Fiona - Hi, thanks for dropping by. And thank you for your compliment on my blog.
Mary Oliver is among my favourite poets also. She and Carol Ann Duffy make up most of my modest poetry collection. I need to read more poetry, but I always come back to my favourites. *sigh*
Bybee - Percy does seem like a cute dog, doesn't he? :)
And if anyone is interested, here's a link to Mary Oliver and Percy. The picture is strictly copyrighted - so I'm not posting it on the blog. ;p
I love this poem! (all of the Percy poems). And thanks for the link to the photo. TJ
Love it!
TJ - Don't mention it. Percy is a cute little bugger, isn't he?
Stefanie - I love it too. It's so endearing.
Okay, maybe not if he actually ate MY book.
