Beware of Falling Book Piles

This morning I had a stack of old books fall on my bare feet. Needless to say, it was painful. I never thought I would see the day when the sight of tall, unruly piles of books infuriates me.

Begone!

Twenty-four boxes of books as of this evening. Still counting.

one time when i was about 27... i had a bonfire of the vanities.... i got rid of by donating to friends and thrift shops and people i didn't even know a MESS of music and books and clothes and gear and such.

it only took 3 years before i started to want it back.

admittedly... not all of it... but there's a lot of stuff that I thought I could do without that I couldn't. Its probably a lesson all of us who have been influenced by the 'less material' have experienced.

I still want a copy of Tom Waits' 'Frank's Wild Years'. Its ok though. I know I'll get one someday.

I guess what I'm trying to say about this... is don't throw the baby out with the bathwater... because there's some stuff that did more than occupy an hour... that inspired you, moved you, or you found delightful to pick up again and read in your leisure. Be sure and keep that stuff despite the urge to burn it all down. Because you'll just have to find it again later.

Cheers!

Nymeth - Yes, painful and I've been breathing in dust for the past week. My sinuses are over-active. Can't wait till this is done.

Doc - We all want to own and hold on to many things in our lives. But the truth is, a lot of the things we want, we don't actually *need* them. I will probably regret and want them later in life. But that desire will pass.
